Welcome to Source of Steel - The Heavy Metal Museum. For the metal head who likes to own or collect physical CDs, Source of Steel is my website dedicated to the love of physical metal on shiny plastic discs. Micro-reviews, thoughts, pics of my own collection and random utterances galore. The site started out purely as a way of sharing my rarities to like-minded fans, but now (for longevity's sake more than anything) it is open to new physical metal music bits I've picked up, including new releases and other random shit.

Authorize - The Source of Dominion

Excellent Swedish death metal here. This is the 2006 re-issue on Arsenal of Glory records, with bonus demo material from when the band were known as Morbid Fear. This is just as hard to come across as the first Putrefaction records pressing, as Arsenal of Glory records turned out to be a bunch of rip offs, disappearing into obscurity shortly after this was released.

Ghoul - We Came for the Dead

Debut full length from these deathly thrashers, released on Razorback Records. Awesome, awesome band - highly recommended.

Sarcophagus - Sarcophagus / Deadnoise / Ubermensch

An early compilation of demos and E.Ps from Andrew Harris' (Judas Iscariot) other early 90s project - Sarcophagus. Released on Pulveriser Records, and long out of print.

Darkthule - Beyond the Endless Horizons

The debut album from Greek black metallers Darkthule, in it's original early pressing. This pressing is out of print, but it was re-issued a couple of years back with a black and white cover on Dark Hidden Productions.

Kristallnacht - Of Elitism And War

This is an early compilation of these fundamentalists from France, pulling together a demo and an EP on Warspirit Productions. Dubious politics aside, the music is great.

Dim Mak - Enter the Dragon

Here's an original Digipak pressing on Dies Irae Productions of Dim Mak, the band that most of Ripping Corpse went onto form after they split.

Dissection - The Somberlain

No introduction needed for Dissection of course, but here's the No Fashion Records pressing of their debut album just for shits and giggles.

Miasma - Changes & Love Songs E.P

This is the re-issue of these death metal giants from Austria, released with the Love Songs E.P as bonus tracks - released on Napalm Records after the first press on Lethal Records went out of print. This pressing is now too out of print.

Human Mincer - Embryonized

Brutal Spanish death metal here, thanks to the guys from Human Mincer. This was the first release on Dave Rotten's 3rd label, (after Drowned & Repulse) Xtreem Music. I've been reliably informed that this pretty hard to find these days.

Vordr - Vordr

This is the bands demo released on CD by Autistiartili Records, limited to 500 hand numbered copies. Autistiartili disappeared off the face of the planet a few years back now, leaving quite a few great black metal releases hanging in the limbo of out of print world.

Dew-Scented - Immortelle

Debut album from these German death/thrashers, in an original pressing on SPV.

Goatmoon - Death Before Dishonour / Finnish Steel Storm

It seems these two went out of print after their label went the way of the dodo, inevitably thrusting them into the interest of eBay fanatics everywhere. Pretty good black metal, nothing you haven't heard before though. Both albums released by Werewolf Records.

Hell Militia - Canonisation of the Foul Spirit

The debut album from this French black metal 'super' group. Features members of Mutiilation, Vorkriest, Antaeus and Arkhon Infaustus. Limited to 2,000 copies, this is an original pressing on Total Holocaust Records from 2005.

Fallen - A Tragedy's Bitter End

Destructive funereal doom from these Norwegians. Featuring members of Funeral, this album was a one off for Fallen. An original pressing on Aftermath Music, handnumbered to 1,000 copies on digipak.

Carve - Stillborn Revelations

Yet another project by the infamous Roger "Rogga" Johansson from Sweden. Pretty good debut by this short lived project (who went on to release one other album after this, before folding). But, let's face it, this was pretty much just Paganizer under a new name. An original Pressing on Black Hole Productions, now out of print.

Beheaded - Perpetual Mockery

This is the debut album of these Maltese brutality bringers. Nice, crushingly tight sound they had on this. This is now out of print, released on the short lived X-treme Records from Sweden.

Decapitated - Live in Nottingham

This was a limited release by Earache that was given away free with pre-orders of Organic Hallucinosis. I was actually at the gig, and don't remember them sounding THIS good! I love the way it looks like a cheap burn, a nice touch.
